A little fedora history

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

One of the most versatile hats, equally at home in both casual and dressy environments, is the Fedora.

Named for the French play “Fédora” in which the lead actress playing the role of Princess Fédora Romazov wore a center creased soft brimmed hat. The fedora replaced the bowler and other hats worn by men after 1924 when Prince Edward began wearing them. The fedora never went out of style but did see a huge resurgence after Harrison Ford’s character wore one as a part of his signature look in the Indiana Jones movie series.

Fedora’s generally have a “snap brim” usually 2”+ with a shorter brim version known as the trilby.

The fedora is a wonderful addition to anyone’s wardrobe adding both style and maturity.

Available in many brim and crown sizes, both crushable/packable, and non crushable/packable versions, and in many colors, fabrics and styles, there’s sure to be a fedora (or several) to fit any taste.
