Big chain restaurants have their place...just not on my list of go-to’s. I prefer small, local independent restaurants. You know the places, the local secrets, the places where the owners know their regular customers by name. The places where the food is made fresh, from scratch.
One such place, near me, is Sol of Mexico. When I walk in the owner greets me by name...first name. You won’t find more legit, real, Mexican food outside of Mexico or perhaps a few small places in the American southwest. It’s homemade, fresh, Mexican food made to order. When they first opened the owner flew her nephew up from Mexico, where he’s a chef, and together they designed the menu...what’s on it, how it’s properly made and how it should be presented to the customer.
From basic tacos and burritos to mind-blowing enchiladas and tamales. This is the real deal. Legit shit. You can eat at other Mexican restaurants serving “American Mexican” or you can eat the real stuff. I prefer the real stuff. Not only are you getting the best but you are supporting your small local businesses at the same time. There’s no need for me to turn this into a lengthy post. I’ll let the following two pictures do the talking for me.
Homemade fresh from scratch enchiladas with green, red and mole (pronounced molay) sauce.
Homemade fresh from scratch tamales available in beef, chicken or pork.
If I had to sum this up in one sentence it would be “five-star quality priced like Subway“.
